Cracking photo of him as a young pilot. Looks like a typical WW2 pilot image I reckon..

A great tribute to a brave man, but spoilt as only the Daily Mail can by bad research and inaccurate photo captions.
You'd think that if the Mail run such an article, they'd make the effort to get it right - so many errors and inaccuracies.

And the oddest looking Blenheim and Sea Fury plus only 544 RAF pilots and aircrew killed during WWII! aaarggh
The Daily Mail can make a pig's ear from any story, but partilularly anything remotely military - such a shame.

This figure refers to the aircrew casualties who actually took part in "The Battle of Britain" (Summer of 1940)

Not many knew they existed either

......I didn't, and I thought I was quite good on WW2 era aircraft..just goes to show.
