Buying Abroad

#1 Post by top »

Why is it so hard to get things to do with guns from the US, all I wanted was a Extended Bolt Release and an Extended Mag Release, but all I got was sorry we don't post to the UK.

Apparently, it has to do with anti-terror laws brought in by the US Administration which prohibit exports of weapons related goods.

I tried to purchase some chargers for an M95 Steyr from Graf & sons and was told the same thing.

If I wanted ammo then I could understand it, but I only wanted a couple of bits.

One word (or rather an acronym).

ITAR.

It's possible, but not exactly cheap to get stuff out through the proper channels. There are a couple of retailers (ok, 2) that bring stuff in and charge a reasonable amount for. The difficulty is the small volume unusual stuff.

It's easy if you follow the right process. No, most won't post to the UK. But most will post to an FFL of your choice in the US. Then the FFL will file the appropriate export licence paperwork on your behalf to export and post to you. From memory export licence is $200 i think plus FFL charge, shipping etc. so it may or may not be worth your while depending on what or how much you are ordering.

State department export license application is $250.

Different exporters charge differently. Some are a flat fee, some are % based, some are on a markup of what you're buying. Depends what and how much.

Don't forget to add import VAT, duty and handling on top of the overall cost.

.

Are you allowed to bring them back personally?

I'm sure with some planning you could fly to America and back for £250.
