A question for the rifle builders.
The No4 action is it possible to swop the barrel out for a different calibre what calibres would work with the No4 action. Would you have to change out the bolt head.
To put it bluntly if I wanted to re barrel my AIA 7.62x39 what are my options.

Not a builder myself but I've certainly seen them rebarreled for .223 and .45ACP
Getting the work done is fairly expensive though, as far as I understand it

I saw a sporterized No 4 a couple of weeks ago apparently the work was done by Slazenger not long after the war , it was in .22 Hornet .
I even got to fire it .

What is the maximum length of loaded round the magazine will take and will the receiver accept a full length magazine. OAL is going to be your limiting factor I would have thought.

It's not a No.4 action, though it looks and works similarly. Are the AIA bolt heads swappable like true Enfield actions?

As Gaz says, an AIA is not a No4 - the bolthead is completely different, as is the barrel mounting and headspace system.
Solution: sell me your AIA, and then buy another rifle in the calibre of your choice! I've been searching for AIAs in both calibres for a while..

You don't see them come up for sale very often. I don't think it will take a full length magazine the round would be limited to the magazine size I think. It also has a feed ramp. It was just a thought never mind.
I don't expect Ill hang onto the rifle forever but for now I'm having a play.
