Laser Power - UK Limit?
I'd like to import a certain optic from the US but it also happens to have a 5mW red laser. I've searched the web but all I can see is discussion regarding laser *pointers*. Does anyone know the maximum permitted power/class in the UK? I gather it's 1mW for pointers but what about integrated systems?
This will be for a firearm sight so, clearly, safety is a moot point.

What optic are you referring to. What are you going to use it for. What class of optic is it. More information needed.I'd like to import a certain optic from the US but it also happens to have a 5mW red laser. I've searched the web but all I can see is discussion regarding laser *pointers*. A MEPRO MOR.
Use? I'll be using the optic on top of a rifle to assist with aiming the bullets.
May not even get it exported but the laser thing could be a show stopper on import...

Re: Laser Power - UK Limit?
Just found this, so 5mW must be legal... maybe.

Re: Laser Power - UK Limit?
my understanding is thats anything over 5mw is restricted to purchase within the UK but there is no limit with importing ....which is why i have a 750mw green laser and a 2 watt blue laser here

Re: Laser Power - UK Limit?
I've never seen any documentation to indicate that laser power is restricted. I'm pretty sure i've seen adverts in GunMart for 20mW green lasers before, certainly 5mW are widely available. Saying that the lasers i have over 5mW were all imported (40mW, 200mW & 750mW)

Re: Laser Power - UK Limit?
Coincidentally i got an email from Wicked Lasers last night to say from January they wouldn't be selling any lasers to US customers over 5mW, and then the rest of the world shortly after that?? Maybe something is changing.... Then again they have been known for questionable marketing practices in the past

Meprolight are an Israeli company not USA, so no ITAR if you order from Israel. :)
