.
I have a space for a .308 on my ticket, can I buy a 7.62?
I know what the difference is between them, but would I be
allowed to buy a 7.62 or would it only be allowed to be a .308?
Regards
ozone.

Ozone;
My FEO usually specifies .308 / 7.62 on all correspondence so hopefully yours would be the same. If so, you are good to go. However, be aware that in this context, 7.62 would normally mean 7.62 x 51 (but a call to your FEO should clarify things).

It does depends on your FLO, mine puts "7.62 rifle" and allows any 7.62 or .308

Depends on force. Mine is fine with 223/5.56 and 7.62x51/308. Some are not

I would get it clarified.
Practically it's not going to make a jot of difference to the powers that be but might make it complicated to close a sale. Not sure I as a private seller would be comfortable signing over my .308 to a bloke that has 7.62 on ticket only without clarification. It's the sort of issue that might waste a lot of time, petrol and screw up a bargain.

Thanks for the advice guys.

It is also down to the RFD's interpretation, I always say ask for .308/7,62x51 as a slot for the rifle and for the ammunition here in the Beds and Herts area to save any confusion or heartache.

You could get legal weasels involved, EU officials too if you want to really stir things up. The legislation asks for the calibre, and we are officially metric, hence 7.62mm is the correct designation and covers .308" without needing explicitly to state such.
