Mini McQueens rig
Started prototyping today. Using an arduino, mid-range stepper motor, 433mHz receiver and a cheap clone remote, all readily available for some time I reckon.

Re: Mini McQueens rig
Perhaps I am being a bit thick but what are we looking at Demonic? At the moment all I can see is a fixed time turner that will presumably be somehow linked to a miniature turning target.
Are you intending to build a McQueens castle with targets appearing at varying times from different windows for use on a miniature rifle range?

Re: Mini McQueens rig
That looks OK, will the servos have enough torque to turn the flags and are you going to buffer the flag to servo interface to prevent mechanical shocks going through the servos?
Re: Mini McQueens rig
I've got some high torque servos to try, as well as the cheap micro style.
Not thought about buffering it yet, the decent servos have metal gears so should hold up and the force should be minimum. Any ideas on a way to buffer if needed?
Chapius, this is a continuation from another thread, so yes is the answer to your question :-)
I just thought I'd share my progress along the way.

Re: Mini McQueens rig
A buffer can be something as simple as a short length of surgical rubber tube which will also help if there is any angular or radial misalignment between the device that will hold the flag and the servo linkage
Re: Mini McQueens rig
I may need a picture :-)
Where does the buffer go, round the linkage bolt?

Re: Mini McQueens rig
A really simple sketch, I have not shown the crank assembly however it should give an idea.
Starting top top bottom
Flag
Shaft
Bracket with 4 fixing holes and simple bearing, this could be as simple as a bit of tube and the flag is held in place with an O ring or similar friction device.
Shaft
Green part is a flexible joint/buffer (Rubber/silicon tube)
Below is the servo and connecting arm, you may need a further support just below the green bit and a crank type affair to keep things smooth, this is just a bent bit of wire in principle so easy enough to fashion.

Re: Mini McQueens rig
That makes sense, I was thinking of mounting the flag holder to a door hinge so it's easily replaceable if necessary, I suppose I could add the buffer to the bottom of the holder, then attach the servo to that.

Re: Mini McQueens rig
only issue i see with a buffer setup like that is you might have trouble bringing the target back again, as the rubber would just go slack and leave the target there.
if you were going to rig the servo up with an absorbing linkage, you might want to have a spring to bring it into view and the servo to turn it away with the buffer in place.
i would have also thought that the servo would be attached to the actual target holder?
