Now how on earth can that happen? Official sources say she was hit in the face by an ejected cartridge case when a firearm was discharged into the ground. What was a firearms officer doing shooting into the ground and why was he/she doing it near a bunch of school kids? To make matters worse the local MP John Mann reported that the girl was injured when "a machine gun went off".

You really couldn't make any of this up!

It's reported elsewhere that she was hit on the lip by an ejected case.

It just proves that the police can't be trusted to handle firearms. They should be taken off them and locked up in rifle clubs.

Now, if it was a bunch a Newport primary school kids, there might be some justification ;) but Bargoed is a pretty quiet town!

Fair point Chapuis!

That was just up the road from us (about 3 or 4 miles).

FYI: for the first 3 or 4 years living up here (I'm a Newport boy originally) I didn't realise Argoed and Bargoed were two different towns - just thought the locals had a funny way of saying things kukkuk

So, I've only got another 10 posts after this one before I can access GOM ... will the wait be worth it? I didn't even know that there was a Grumpy section.
