The question applies to shotguns only.
Is it legitimate to remove the fore-ends from shotguns and store them separately from the action and barrels which remain in fully approved cabinets?

Yeah, why not? Forends are not a component part, I reckon you could keep them in a kitchen drawer, if you'd like. Just cant see why you'd want to.

Mentioned by someone who goes away for extended periods - although house is occupied and alarmed and keys NOT there. It gives a little extra peace of mind that if the security was breached by an intruder the guns would not be usable.

Yeah, fair enough. I'm not knocking it, if it's a level of security that adds peace of mind as well, then all power to it. I suppose it is highly unlikely that you would forget your fore end going to a shoot.....
