Problem with reloading 44

I started reloading for this weekends trip to Bisley using my competition PPU brass. Every 5th or 6th round came out either seated too deep or two high whereby I could almost gently push the bullet so that the crimp engaged the groove. I've had this issue before with PPU.

On the rounds that seated incorrectly, there was almost a second movement when seating the bullet in the press. I readjusted the die, cleaned inside it but it was no better.

I looked out my normal brass which is a mixed bag fired God knows how many times. Rattled off 100 with no problems.

So.....is it the die or the brass that is the problem?

No idea what's going on but I would never use PPU .44 brass, had two batches from Kranks and cases from both had problems splitting, both at the mouth and even the case sides. Switched to StarLine and had zero problems for the last 3 years.

*Consults "Olde Boor's Almanac" *

Did you spin it three times in the moonlight afore popping it in the die?

Sounds like the brass isn't trimmed to a consistent size.

Lee dies and press. I'm thinking its brass related given the differing results between makes. Only started after I began using the PPU. Found it hard to seat primers sometimes.

I can send you 10 new unused Starline if you want to compare them?
