Shooting down drones - legal question

#1 Post by Gaz »

I've just seen someone ask this question elsewhere on the internet and I thought it might be a bit of a light-hearted distraction from all the NRA and police woes and moans.

"Do I own the airspace above my garden, and to what height may I use air rifle to shoot down drones over my garden?"

Discuss. bangbang

Unless theres no wind and you can shoot the drone when its 90 degrees above you i doubt you're going to be able to keep the pellet within your boundaries.

I'm presuming given the arm of choice was an air rifle we're taking about quadcopters and the like, rather than Predators or Reapers  That being the case a shoelace/stone bolas would be just as effective and not get you in the soup. Well, apart from with the irate drone owner **** :55:

There is a lot of regulation in place already from the CAA and EuroUSC about what a UAV Operator can and cannot do. Sadly, most hobbyists and some commercial operators seem to ignore it. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't shoot down a helicopter or a plane in the airspace above your garden so UAVs are no different. Criminal damage, reckless discharge of an air rifle blah blah blah.

If you are bothered by irresponsible UAV operators, I'd phone the police! They are prone to malfunction, fly aways and crashes are not uncommon so there is potential risk of damage to property and injury.
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!
