Annealing cups

I have just machined a run of Annealing cups in various sizes including .223REM .308WIN, WSM, Win Mag and .338LM plus some blanks for other sizes. As ever these are machined from 6082T6 with generous wall thickness for heat dissipation with stainless drive shaft and rather shiny. We can also supply Tempilaq to suit.

These make a very effective low cost alternative to running a dedicated annealing machine and is a remarkably efficient means of annealing your brass.

You've got three of our main calibres there David - .222/.223, .243/.308 and .300 WSM, and we've been talking about annealing cases all summer.

How much are these David? I know this has been debated ad infinitim, but how do you reccommend suing these?

Rob, as well as machining some finished items I also built some blanks so I can cover everything up to and including .505 Gibbs virtually same day, for bigger allow a bit more time. The largest I have built to date were for 8 Bore brass cartridges however it looks like I will be building some for a 4 bore very shortly. They work incredibly well in the drill even at this size and I use a cup in preference to my own auto feed annealing machine.

The process is very simple, pop the annealing cup in a cordless drill set to low speed, apply a line of Tempilaq down the shoulder and onto the upper edge of the case body and adjust your gas torch to a medium heat, pop a case in and rotate whilst applying some heat and wait for the Tempilaq to change colour, I would say it was virtually impossible to put heat too far down the body with my design of annealing cup. Cost wise they start at GBP14.95 plus some postage and should last a lifetime.

Yup, we have always have some Tempilaq here. I tend to use it for a couple of cases to get the feel of things and then do the rest of the cases without. I use milsurp brass for the testing process.

Thanks David - I have a batch of W-W .308 cases which have been re-loaded many times and plan on using some of them to experiment with to see how well they can be rejuvinated before annealing my precious Lapua cases or ludicrously expensive .300 WSM brass.

What is the A/F of the hexagonal bit please as I am looking for a 180rpm cordless drill and want to ensure if I purchase an annealing cup I get the right one that will accept the bit. Cheers
