Redding Body Die

I have Lee Dies for 303 and 308, Collet for neck-sizing, and the Full Length Resizing dies. I also have a Redding body Die for 303. The instructions for the Redding die say that it just sizes the body, not the neck. If i have an FL die, that does the neck also, wha ts the point of a body die? surely that would entail two separate operations, resize the body then resize the neck? Or am I missing something?
Thanks for any advice.

yes, it is two operations. It allows you to use the collet die for neck sizing, which is much more precise than a standard full length die, and then size the body so it will chamber properly.

I use that combo to size my 308 cases, and it is a combo which works well enough for sixth at the Europeans, anyway.

Thanks for clarifying. Does it matter in what order the two operations are done, neck first then body or vice versa?

No, not really.

However, what I do is to do the body die first, with case lube, and then tumble to remove the lube. Then I use Imperial Dry Neck Lube (Redding) with the application media, for lubing the necks as I run them through the collet die. In the instructions of the collet die, it says about doing the sizing twice - definitely worth following.

You probably wouldn't have to use the body sizing die everytime. A few people I know only body size every 4 or 5 reloadings?

True. You can get away without each time. However, because I want my brass the same each and every time, I size each and every time. Neck sizing only is great, but because I am shooting at the ranges I shoot, it's gotta be as close to identical as I can make it.

There are plenty of uses where that's not the case, and then sensible people have better things to do!!
