Unused slots on a ticket..

So, I have three slots on my FAC: 2 x .22 and 1 x 7.62/308.

However, it doesn't look like Im going to be able to afford to fill the 7.62 slot for a while, due to house moves etc.

What are the Met like on the basis of the "use it or lose it" basis? If, for some reason, I don't buy my own 7.62 by the time my ticket is up for renewal, am I likely to get it refused?...

Hypothetical question at the moment, but something Id like to know... anyone had a slot removed on this basis before?...

No, ooman, no. Warwickshire plod take the view that a slot is valid for 5 years, ie the length of the ticket. If you don't use it in that time, maybe tiddlywinks is a better sport for you...

That said, we normally use our variations within 3 months of 'em being granted, then apply for more...

One has seen on this very forum 7.62 bang-sticks for under a 100 pictures of "The Queen"

A P'14 actioned ye olde style 70's target rifle averages £80 or so - some others are around that mark
Ex-Dead Sea Pedestrian type K98's are cheap as chips too (started life in 8mm, modified to 30-06, chopped back to .308 - stamped to death)

Try a post on here or PigeonWatch or similar

A mosin is 7.62 too, and they're cheap to buy and to run :-)
Can't believe badger missed that opportunity to be honest ;-)

My experience with Herts police is that if you have a good reason why you haven't bought yet (and you had a good enough reason in the first place to want to acquire it), maybe you are still looking for that right rifle, or getting one made, or house move, or had a knee op/bipass (my father's excuses), etc. then they are perfectly fine with keeping it on the FAC.

Still vacant after more than two terms I think you might struggle with the need to acquire.

Do you have a friendly local gun shop that you use regularly?

Come to a deal with him, "buy" a suitable 7.62 from him, leave it "in storage" with him, apply for renewal, obtain new FAC, "sell" 7.62 back to shop and get a free 1:1 variation.

You could always be looking for something unusual and rare in 7.62, an M40 perhaps, or an L42A1 in that calibre at the right price. Some .303 slots can take ages to fill if you have a particular model/year/factory in mind.
