Reloading 22 RF anyone?

Raise a lot of questions, like is the already fired case safe? How easy is it to get the priming compound and what could you use?

I've seen ground match heads used in the past but it is a slow and exciting procedure.

I read a good article on this a few years ago. An American competition shooter was looking for ultimate accuracy with the .22LR and went through many different ways of reclaiming and re-priming .22LR brass. In the end he gave up and went back to buying primed .22LR cases in bulk and even then by his own admission it was barely worth the trouble.

It was a fascinating article and covered the reforming of the case by different means including hydraulically, adding and uniforming the primer by centrifugal source, different powders and the casting of bullets. From memory he confirmed that you were as well off shooting many different types of ammunition until you found one that suited your chamber and barrel and then batch sorting by rim thickness, length, weight etc.

I'd give it go just for the experience and to see the look on the FEO's face when I say I'm reloading 22 rimfire! :lol:

In my younger days I used to fill hollow airgun pellets with powdered match head, when fired at hard surface they detonated, wouldn't want to use that stuff as propellant.

Opened a Federal Hi Speed round, it contained 1.2Gr of powder, noted that the empty case would accept 3.5Gr of a fast burning pistol powder (Lovex D036).

Without proper reloading info, how long before somebody tries something like that? What would that do to a 10/22?

And...$189.00 for the kit. Bit much.

Grinding match heads will eventually cause injury. At college, a friend shot a ball bearing through a door with a metal pen lid, wadding and ground match heads, but not before it gave him a burn that probably needed proper medical attention. Nasty stuff.

You can now reload ones own. 22 rimfire cartridges! I think this is a great little gadget! A bit fiddly yes,but with cheap factory ammo being rubbish ide like to see the results with some 2400.......what's everyone think?

I think I wouldn't be interested. Seems like a lot of trouble for something which is cheap enough to start off with. I suppose it would be OK for the anal retentives who expect 0.5 MOA - or better - but for the average .22lr user, why bother?
