As a professional shooter, Rachel Carrie is used to travelling all over the world for competitions with her shotgun in tow.

But while competing in her native Britain at the Commonwealth Games she did not receive the usual warm welcome. Instead, the hotel she was staying at called the police.

And then the police interrogated her - a Commonwealth Games shooter, with her SGC and her shotgun, for four hours.

I know both Rachel and her other half Mark - I bet the air will be blue this morning!

But 4 hours by Police Scotland? - what on earth for? that is appalling handling of the situation.

It's good to see that crime in Dundee is so low the police can devote 4 hours to this s***.

"No, it's not illegal for an SGC holder to have a shotgun in a hotel room. Yes, it's your prerogative to not allow them on the premises. We'll take it back to the station".

Resolves the situation in 2 minutes flat. It's not f*** rocket science, so I suspect someone kicked off big style about this (management or otherwise).

Ah, perhaps the police were "examining the evidence" of her professional standing? ;)

I had a situation when away up in Warrington a few years ago, we asked the Hotel reception (Premier Inn) if it was ok to put our rifles (.22 smallbore target) in our room and for her to keep the bolts in the Hotel safe, "yep no probs my dad had guns when I was a kid...etc)

We went to get some food and a drink in the adjacent pub and about two hours later she came over to ask us to go back to the reception, I laughed and said let me guess the police! she blushed up and said yes, we went in (whiskey glass in hand) and the bobby saw me and just said "Mr Collick which rifle do you have with you?" I said my Anschutz and he said that's cool have a nice evening!.

Obviously they'd been on the FAC database and got the info from there, all very proffesional and easy.

The next morning when the manager was in she told us the young lady had been threatened previously with "I'm not paying I'll get my gun from the car!!".

The reporting credentials of the Daily Fail are never the best so it would be interesting to hear Rachel's side of things and equally the Police Scotland take on things. If indeed it was 4 hours then there is something seriously wrong.
