Oh dear, what a stupid rule! WHY would anyione need a jacket for shooting an air rifle. Claim against airline should be made.Commonwealth Games shooting gold medallist Nur Ayuni Farhana Abdul Halim has been left devastated after being ruled out of competing in Glasgow because her competition jacket was lost en route to Scotland.

There is no on site gun smith at Barry Buddon either. Even a poxy golf event at Carnoustie brings the big support trucks!!
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!

...and NONE of the dedicated UK target shooting suppliers can Fed-Ex a jacket for next day delivery?
No idea why it'll take 2 months to get used to one either.
Wimmin, eh

Re: No Jacket - No Competition
It's usually easier (and quicker) to get used to a new rifle than a new jacket. I had to change rifle during qualification for the last Commonwealth Games. It wasn't pretty, but thankfully I'd done enough already. I took duplicate rifles, sights etc, all spread across luggage items with my partner, but my jacket would have been the weak link if luggage were lost. Some guys did take them on the plane, along with scopes etc. I would reckon on a full season to break-in and get used to a new jacket.saddler wrote:No idea why it'll take 2 months to get used to one either
Anyone who has to ask why you need a jacket to shoot an 'air rifle' has clearly never tried to shoot 60 shots, standing, with a 4.5mm projectile into a 5mm bull, never mind being competitive at world level.Chuck wrote:WHY would anyione need a jacket for shooting an air rifle.

Absolutely, doing that has no excitement value for me whatsoever so thanks for the information, something learned today (apart from some people with cats have no sense of humour LOL) Likewise I cannot see what this has to do with Olympic or Commonwealth Games - and athletics events in general. In saying that, if that's your chosen discipline then go for it and good luck to you - seriously.Anyone who has to ask why you need a jacket to shoot an 'air rifle' has clearly never tried to shoot 60 shots, standing, with a 4.5mm projectile into a 5mm bull, never mind being competitive at world level.
As I said, it does nothing for me personally but I will defend your right to have that discipline to chose from all the others that are available - shooting is shooting after all.

Excellent. Well carry-on belittling those who pursue ultimate precision Olympic disciplines! Thanks, I appreciate it!Chuck wrote:Absolutely, doing that has no excitement value for me whatsoever so thanks for the information, something learned today (apart from some people with cats have no sense of humour LOL) Likewise I cannot see what this has to do with Olympic or Commonwealth Games - and athletics events in general. TR shooters at bisley were the most arrogant closed minded individuals I have ever met but I just ignored it and carried on , it's called being a grown up!
I'm with chuck , the air rifle disciplines do nothing for me (but I understand the skill required haveing tried it a few years ago) but fully support an individuals right to practice it (I just wish the NRA type shooters had shown us the same curtesy at the last couple of bans!)
Good day sir

If the jacket provides support whilst standing, isnt that cheating?
