Evening,
have a read of this article in my brothers local rag, it makes claims that are false, the comments sum it up really. I found Mr Peter Squires PR bit too, and the police report from their website

If this statement is all true that is.
Hey ho maybe one for Gaz or Iain to look into.

Oh look, he has a book out.
"Professor Squires has written about secret caches in his latest book just published, Gun Crime in Global Contexts, in which he estimates there are in the order of 850 million firearms in the world today – one for every seven people on the planet – and the majority, 650 million, are in the hands of civilians."

I've said this time and before, this man should be stripped of his professorship. I watched LIVE on TV him openly lie to a parliamentary committee and openly state that several police officers a year were killed by inspecting the homes of FAC and SGC holders.
This man spouts so much bullshit, sadly Brighton seem keen to keep him on, he really needs to go, the work he does is totally flawed yet the HO is desperate to use it to prove their point.

Ah yes. Brighton, spiritual home of the absolute nut jobs that are the green party. Makes sense the Uni would be laughable as well.

Joe, spot on.
His (Squires) verbal dysentry is designed to sell his ass wipe books! Without it no one would care about the deranged ramblings of a dope fuddled tw@t who is in serious need of professional help. It says a lot about the police who give him time of day - maybe time some people were privatised - or sacked!
He is a symptom of todays life: Print sh1t because nothing can or wll be done about it. Betcha he ends up dead in a gay haunt public toilet with a drugs overdose - or ends up "Rolfing" some kids, if he hasn't already!

The comment on theargus.co.uk website was interesting.

Numptyone says…
Is this the same arms cache that the Police stated that the rifles were all 'DEACTIVATED'? There has been no mention of the hand grenade being 'live' ordinance. There as been no mention as to whether the 'live' revolvers and pistols were an obsolete calibre and therefore legal to own as per HO regulations. From all the news reports and also the Argus repository for information (wikipedia), it states that Lee Rigby was murdered with bladed instruments not shot,
http://en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Murder_of_L ee_Rigby From the BBC
http://www.bbc.co.uk /news/uk-25298580 The gun, a 90-year-old 9.4mm-calibre Dutch revolver, was not loaded. Professor Squires as an academic I would have thought your research facilities / resources would be better than my five minutes with google. If you are going to scare monger please do it with correct facts rather than just getting your name in the paper again So to round it up, careful peeps, theres lots of deactivated and obsolete calibre weapons that are legally held and cannot be shot without a lot of specialist work. Most of the weapons in criminal hands are smuggled into the UK with border control being cut back.
