Remington large pistol primers

#1 Post by mr smith »

Has anyone used these in thier marlins for gallery rifle. My marlin has a reduced power hammer spring and use federal primers for my competition ammo but usually use other primers for practise to save my stock of federals.
So are the remingtons sensitive enough to go pop with the lighter spring?

The reduced hammer spring in Marlin .44s works with CCI primers, in my experience. CCI have had the reputation of being the "hardest" primer, so Remington should work fine. But what works in one gun may not function so well in another; I'd advise trying a 100 first, to see how they go.

Thanks David,i normally use CCI in my practise without problem and never thought of them as hard but a look around the net yesterday seem to indicate that most people thought they were up there in the 'hardness' stakes.

Yep, I have a reduced spring in both my .357 and .44 and have used Remington and CCI with no issues. I don't use Federal.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

If you fit the hammer spur you will have no problem setting off any primers with or without lighter spring.
