Does anyone own or have used a Browning Maral?

Opinions welcome as I'm sorely tempted...

Certainly an interesting rifle depending on intended use. I'd also suggest looking at the Merkel RX Helix.

Why are you tempted? Do you plan on shooting driven game?

It's basically a Browning BAR without the self load mechanism so pull and release. I prefer the Merkel Helix myself though I haven't actually shot either only handled them.

I'm tempted because I can.

The Helix looks OK but I much prefer the lines of this.

What do they mean by "three times more effective than the competition"?

Presumably, the time to operate the straight pull is only 1/3 of operating a traditional bolt?

I am interested as well, I was asked to bring one in for a customer and was really looking forward to it, however he changed his mind and will probably be going for a Blaser because of the ease of barrel changes and availability of barrels in other chamberings.

I have no experience of the said rifle. In fact, I've never handled one. Straight pull, as per our UK versions with a spring driven return, seems like a canny idea to improve cycling time. But,..........

What an ugly, clunky looking thing!!! Life is too short to own such a monstrocity!!

I think it's a good looking rifle :-)

I don't read my own signature!

I too have no problem with its looks, and for drive game or stalking it certainly offers a much faster repeat shot.

I'd welcome the opportunity to shoot one, and even better a head-to-head with the Merkel Helix. I've already shot the Blaser straight-pull and it didn't impress me.
