Legal issues with transporting a firearm long distance?

I'm thinking of combining a holiday in the UK with the purchase of a firearm.

I will be travelling by Motorcycle.

I very probably will not make the return journey in one day so will have to stop en route.

I do not intend to be carrying any ammunition, only a firearm.

I would be collecting the firearm "on my way back" so to speak.

I can see several issues - carrying a firearm on my back ( although in a case ) , finding a place that would accept me staying overnight and bumping into a over zealous officer of the law.

Any ideas?

Mark

Depends on the firearm, break it down to make it more transportable?

I wouldn't tell a hotel I had a rifle/shotgun if I was staying there.

What bike are you on?
Busa/Blackbird etc, not a problem. R6, you're gonna get pulled ;)

I'd agree with that, just to avoid any hassle.

We stayed at a PremierInn once with firearms, didn't tell anyone, just walked in with all our gear and checked in.

As long as you have your FAC on you then it is not a problem transporting a firearm like that, even if you get pulled on the bike.

What I will say though is that we never ever leave our firearms or FAC out of sight when on the go, the room or the car is always locked and we are present.

Bit of extra security, say a bike lock to chain it to something in your room and a trigger lock would most probably be beneficial also

One of the times we went to Bisley to shoot, car full of rifles and ammo, I asked if we could go to Legoland on the way back, we drive right past it, no was the answer

Haven't asked since, makes sense now that I have had a second to reflect :o

Unless it rains then the "Garage Sensor" is automatically activated and the bike stops running unless it's under cover ;)

We stayed in a Premier inn up at warrington for a smallborwe shoot a few years ago, we locked the rifles in the room and asked the duty manager to lock the bolts in their safe. About two hours later she came over to the pub where we were having a night cap after some grub and asked us to come back to the reception. A local officer simply said Mr C.... which rifle do you have with you so I told him and just said thanks and have a good night. It turns out that the same lady had an issue with someone refusing to pay the bill and "im going to get my gun" was muttered a few months earlier, so she had gotten jumpy and called the station.

I would just make sure that if you can you make it as safe as possible and if it's bolt action take the bolt with you if you leave.
