Remington in the UK

Several weeks back I was having lunch at Bisley when someone mentioned Remington was planning on buying a manufacturing plant in the UK. Apparently to get around the exportation restrictions in the USA.
I questioned this but it appeared to be common knowledge amongst many.

Has anyone else heard this rumour or can add anything to it?

Hmm.... A manufacturing/distribution hub for Europe might be handy however for the UK alone I would question if it was worth the investment.

It was voiced as a European / rest of workd venture.

I read about something like this for another manufacturer last week too... I'll see if I can find it. The company in question was investing tens of millions of dollars in a new manufacturing plant...now, where the hell did I read it!?

It makes sense, the US Govt are actively stifling their own manufacturers' international sales. They've nobody to blame but themselves when said manufacturers start looking elsewhere.

I would be very sceptical of such a story at least as regards manufacturing for the mass market, possibly for specialised arms maybe? There again perhaps they want to improve the quality of their products as they haven't exactly gained a good reputation for themselves in that department in recent years. emrolleyes

Well if say the MoD chose to upgrade a particular area of their small arms with Remington offerings then it might make a bit more sense and I have heard a couple of times now of some specific changes in the offing. Having said that the area that is being looked at for 'improvement' is hardly volume stuff so I doubt Remington would set up a plant for it.

hmmm, the only area I can think of off hand that remington would get involved in is, as far as I know gone to another manufacturer.
not volume stuff, maybe a couple of thousand units

Can you think of one area that Remington excells at that isn't better served by other manufacturers? I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Product recalls? Abysmal quality control i.e. the Marlin-gton relocation fiasco? :run:
