Advice needed.CG63

I have a decision to make .
Due to old age and general decrepitude my eyesight ain't what it used to be. My CG63 is stonkingly accurate but no matter what I try , iris ,lens ,specs and prayer, I can't see properly through the sights any more .Younger blokes with good eyesight shoot it amazingly well but I can't .
So , do I sell it , fit a short side mount scope bracket and appropriate scope , or coonvert it back to it's original format a la 1916 Charlie G as I have all the appropriate bits to do so. .
I agonise over all the options.

What is a CG 63 ? If it were mine without doing any damage to its condition I would use it with a scope and continue to enjoy your cherished rifle .

A CG63 is a 6.5 x 55 Swedish Mauser modified by government arsenals to shoot in competion , .They accurise it by hand fitting the action and fitting a heavy target barrel .Mine has a 29" Schultz & Larsen barrel and full aperture sights .Beautiful walnut target stock and a brilliant trigger.
I just my eyes were better.

Sounds like a very good rifle , I have scoped most of my rifles due to my eyes not being up to the job so I see no reason not to , there are plenty of competitions out there for scoped rifles . Some people seem to think that the use of a scope is cheating in some way but if you cant see a target you cant see it end of . You wouldn't expect some one not to wear glasses would you ? If your competing like for like then its a level playing field .
Thanks for the info .

We have one great shooters.
If it were mine sorry I would not fit a scope I would sell it in original format and look for a scoped rifle.

I wouldn't want to damage an original CG63, I am very fond of mine and as you say extremely accurate.
You might want to consider trading it for a nice M96 and then getting one of those no gunsmithing low eye relief scope mounts that fit onto the original rear sight base.

Waterford,
May I suggest that you have your vision checked. You can get a lot of help visually, particularly from a 'shooting' optician. PM me if you want some assist!!

I did that and now own a set of ridiculously expensive shooting glasses that helped a little .But , as I said earlier as well as that I tried an iris rear sight and many different foresight elements , tinted or not. I just can't see the target clearly . Open sights are better with the shooting glasses but I have just sold my beloved No.4 rather than scope it up. I am afraid there is no easy answer to getting old but scopes make seeing the target easier .
I have no idea what the CG63 is worth , will it's sale fund a good Swede ,either long or carbine ? I don't know.
