Unlikely professions as shooters

I was standing watching the machine humming away when for some obscure reason I started to think about shooters and if we came from specific professions or are associated with certain trades other than the possibly obvious such as armed forces. Then again, how many members of our armed forces shoot in competitively or informally outside of work. One thing I have noticed is a fair few IT types shoot black guns, professional drivers are often stalkers. There are a few senior management types shooting TR/MR however there are going to be exceptions and this is certainly not supposed to be stereotyping social groups, however....

For the record my background is Engineering > IT Security > Engineering.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this subject.

IT Operations is my profession..it was that, or a traditional Engineering career. Always been a tinkererer, and always built stuff, so I like the techy-ness of shooting, and the things I shoot lend towards tinkering to make them faster, quicker, betterer etc. I loved meccano and lego as a kid, so I guess that's why I like the AR platform! :D

Stalking has always appealed to me..except the actual shooting a living thing part...!!

I'm currently in between degrees, BA in War Studies (military history with some modern politics thrown in, with my diss being a case study on experiences in combat and as PoWs), waiting to hear back on my MSc placement in International Security. Degree choice explains my interest in Milsurps.

Job wise I've worked in the service industry doing coffee shop/restaurant and outside catering (it's a local west country chain of shops which can't make their mind up as to what they really are). After that I worked briefly as a Carpenter's Labourer for the family company (4 generations of Carpenters that run a business constructing new builds).

I'm hoping to go into the Civil Service or private industry as an Analyst, however, if that cocks up I've also looked at going into teaching.

I've been all over the place career-wise. SOCO , motorcycle mechanic, MOD fitter, exhaust designer, professional driver, journalist, software tester, server administrator, and now metal sculptor. My education is just as mixed. I have been a shooter at every stage though - so some consistency. :)
