Interesting and comprehensive test of products.

Just skimmed the article and the results were not as I expected. The one I was particularly interested in was WD40 as it failed me badly some years ago when I used it to protect some wood chisels over winter.

I will go back and read it properly over a later cup of coffee.

The only thing I think is missing from it is an evaporation test.

There are two different types of WD 40 in the test one of which I have never seen.

Halfords, Screwfix etc list it. Might give it a go...

I have some of the Hornady One Shot that rates out about the best.

I only got it as its a spray which is handy for demonstrations. Seems to work as advertised but as I don't have extreme requirements from my lubricants, dry gun room, most of my guns don't go out in the wet and those that do are bedded in water pump grease and get dried and cleaned straight afterwards. C2R, Ed's Red and ATF do me just fine with Rangoon oil for any long term storage.

Some times with this stuff the best can be the enemy of good.

Most interesting to me was the 'less is more' message. I had a firing pin gum up with frog lube which put me off. Looks like it was my fault.

My approach to lubricants is put it on then wipe it off.

His 'is it heavier than water' test was a bit of a wrongun.

I'm using 3 in 1 and haven't had an issues with either Cab rot or wear so far. I did used Hoppe's but switched a year or so back, it doesn't appear to be that detrimental and is a lot cheaper.
