Big thumbs up for SARTS

We tried out the SARTS system at Ash ETR for the first time today. What an improvement over the old electromechanical system. Not only is it much easier to control the targets from the computer screen, but it also shows point of impact for each shot (on and off the target!), group size etc. And "Bob" mode is great for using up any left over ammunition at the end of the day.
Does anyone here know the format of the XML control files for the targets? We'd like to create one for our favourite Roupell Cup competition.

Does this mean the "Kemble" is back on for next year?

I have passed my comments on the new system to the organisers. We shall see ...

You cannot reprogram SARTS so the only 'Automatically' sequenced shoots are the ones already embedded in the software.

I spent a few hours discussing our next battle camp with the hierarchy the other day, and they slagged off SARTS for about half an hour solid.
It may just be that the team at the range complex they were discussing aren't that 'au fiat' with the system. But it's not in the good books at the moment.

What, they weren't familiar with cars either?

It really isn't that hard to understand or operate. We had two minor problems initially:
We took the large number that appears on each target on the screen to be the number of hits, when in fact it's the number of shots fired.
Initially all our shots were shown as going over the targets. This was because the targets were Fig 11s but the system had them set up as Fig 12s.
Once we'd got those sorted everything was fine and dandy.

That's a pity (although I can see why they wouldn't want people turning up with their memory sticks

).
There are plenty of COFs in there but we couldn't see any competitions. Surely the military would want to run some?

I believe they have written the training programme courses of fire first, and will get round to competition stuff in due course.
