Sgc certificate renewal visit today

Had the police FLO visit today for my sgc renewal, he checked everything .. Including checking I had the firearms that were on my FAC .. Checked security etc etc ..
If I'm honest I'm happy with the checks that were done, I don't really want corners cut with this issue ...
Sorry if that might upset some, but those are my views !

He did however say that my moderator for my .22 should be in the safe ... I didn't realise that ..

It will be listed as a licensable component so he is right there. Sounds like my FLO, very thorough but a very decent chap at the same time. My guy is a clay pigeon basher so isn't a total stranger to the sport which I think helps matters :goodjob:

Your Rimmy moderator is "on ticket" isn't it?

Not having a go but if you know it needs a separate slot on your licence surely you would realise it should be kept under lock & key?

Yup ... It's on ticket .. Normally the mod stays on the rifle, however I've recently been told that this isn't good practice ... The FLO didn't make a big fuss, I know now !

This raises a really important point, a SGC/FAC holders and even as RFD's we are never totally sure of what is right and wrong, good practice and bad practice and a lot of this can be quite subjective and just because someone does something does not mean it is a legal requirement, equally if it is actually legal.

A good rule of thumb is if it is on your ticket keep it under lock and key however what about expanding projectiles. I know some that keep them under lock and key (We certainly do) and others who just pop them on a shelf in the reloading room. Just recently I have come across two shooters who did not clean their rifles because nobody had told them they needed to have anything more than an oily patch pulled through them. I have been having an interesting exchange of emails with my FET regarding S1 'Cowboy' shotgun dimensions and they have not replied to my last email which means I have either confused them or they have lost the will to live.

Even the London Proof Master replied with an Ermm... Ummm.... to a question I posed recently.

For anyone referring to the Firearms Act as being the stake in the ground for all things firearms related, well yes it is however the CPS guidance on the subject should be read in tandem and be aware, the advice you may receive from your FET is just that, advice and it may not be correct or even lawful.

What we need is a little black book of answers to all of our questions, obscure and otherwise tongueout

Still waiting for a call about mine! The Met now require applications to be with them 8 weeks before expiry of the current certificates.

There is one point that will be raised "again" about visibility to visitors even though it is a circuitous route to get to the cabinets and visitors would not normally be in the same part of the house and if they were, it would be be for good reason and they would be in the room where the cabinets are!

On the last two visits the FEO has asked what is in the adjacent "Gun Cabinet" - I remind him that technically I do not need to show him the contents of my "Camera Cabinet" however, I do open it to avoid him getting peeved and the possibility of being awkward.

Nope, corner-cutting isn't on, especially these-days. We want all our British FEO to do & thorough & professional job each & every time. For this reason alone, I wouldn't mind waiting that bit longer, when I apply for my SGC grant, to be accepted.
Carelessness could cost lives & create even more bad PR, which could threaten the very future of private gun ownership.
