Sako M39

#1 Post by Blighty »

Now that my photobucket-fu is strong I thought I'd share another.

1943 Sako M39.

If you exclude some of the post war target/sniper variants this is the end of the line for the Mosin Nagant as a front line battle weapon (although the Syrians are still happily blatting away at each other with Mosins as we speak).

Front and rear sights based on but subtly different from those on the 28/30. Very different design of stock made from arctic birch. This particular one seems to have dodged the post war refurbishment programmes and I'm sure it has a tale or three to tell. Receiver once graced an early 1890s Chatellerault made M91.

Weighs a ton and would made a very handy battle club.

That stock is a thing of beauty and I'm not generally much of a wood man!

I don't read my own signature!

Bit of a result all round. Must have been part exchanged at a high end dealer in Germany who put it on Egun with a price of €219. Nearly cracked the screen on my I-pad hitting the BIN button. Some war time stocks on M39s have far nicer tiger stripes but I love the used look of this one. Pine Tar really bubbles out of the stock after a few rounds.
