I have found some numbers that I think is interesting.
In Australia there are approximately 23 million people living right now, think of all that space. Out of that lot in 2012 there were approximately 730.000 licensed shooters. Hunters/Target/Practice/Anything Else.
From 2011.

This organisation has over 160.000 members, I saw that number on their "about me" page.
In the UK there are approximately 64 million people living right now. Just over 170.000 FAC holders and around 620.000 SGC holders, numbers are from November 2013.

I'd be interested in similar statistics for New Zealand where the number of rifle/shotgun users would be at least as high I suspect.

My good mate from my Army days who I still keep in touch with using Skype has lived in NZ for the last 30 years. He is also shoots and hunts and tells me that shooting in NZ is not one of the cheaper hobbies around. A while back I was having a look at their prices online and all I could think was Wow, he was right, it isn't a cheap sport down there.
