Our variation came through, so we've picked up our 7mm Rem Mag. It's a Remington 700 Police Heavy Barrel with AICS stock and two 10 round magazines. The barrel is in excellent condition so we think the concept of re-barrelling it can go on hold for a year or two. We've topped it off with our faithful old Meopta 7x50.

As target ammo isn't available, this will be the rifle that tips us over into pawloading.

We're thinking:

Lee Cast Challenger "O" press
Lee collet neck sizing dies
Lyman Gen 5 or 6 powder scales

Opinions on the above kit welcomed, ditto suggestions for a load, especially bullet and brass. We're thinking Ramshot magnum powder. We plan to to shoot at 300, 600 and, occasionally, 1000 mards.

Buy a beam scale.
The challenger press will do for starters.
Buy the Lee die set that comes with a full length die the seater die and the neck sizing collet die and you are covered from all angles.
A powder funnel.
A powder trickler
A powder thrower of some type I use a couple of RCBS but it depends how deep your pockets are a set of Lee powder dippers will get you away or a Lee powder measure.
Buy a 100 rounds of ammo shoot it and re use the cases.
Primers.
Bullets.
Powder.
Job done. Don't forget some thing to measure your cartridge over all length.

Challenger press for starters ? Why not for keeps?

I'd go for the Classic Cast or if you're eventually going to do more than one calibre the Breech Lock Classic Cast is also an excellent press.

As suggested a powder trickler and the dipper supplied with the die set will do for now, Lee's Perfect Powder Measure is also one of their better products, accurate and quite cheap. I'd go for the 3 die Deluxe set and add a factory crimp die as well.

Get the Lee Cast Classic. If you are serious about reloading and accuracy, go for Forster dies. Hannam's are the importer.

I like Lee stuff generally but I'd go with a 'better' press

Reloading will become another hobby so buy a decent press, I do use some Lee equipment so you can't accuse me of being a brand snob but there are better presses out there.

As long as they aren't abused presses can last a long, long time so don't be afraid of buying second hand.

The classic cast/breech lock cast are very strong presses and will produce very accurate ammunition and will certainly outlast you
