Hi guys,

I am looking into getting a new set of H/H radios for use on a 600yd gallery range. You all know the layout now!

Has anyone any suggestions please?

Have to be Cornish weather proof, no gimmicks, PTT (speak) button usable with gloves and idiot proof. No licence fee 'cos I'm a mean sod!

Oh!, and reasonable price (not necessarily 'cheap'!!)

Have you had a look at the home of all things gadgetry Maplin.
They seem to have quite a choice

Take a look at the Motorola XTNID range. Licence free, very good performance and well able to withstand the weather down your end of the country. Not cheap but definitely worth the money as they will last. Don't go the cheap route because you'll regret spending the money in the end.
I picked up a couple of microphone/speakers for my radios and the guys using them on the range really appreciate the difference that reliable, clear speech can make.

Some have an audio output that can connect to the input in some brands of electronic ear defenders - a very useful feature !

We use use Motorola - have done for the last 20-odd years. We get probably three or four years out of the batteries and eight years out of the radios.

They are quite rugged and get wet and dropped frequently. A fully charged battery will usually last all day.

We do have the headset type as mentioned by Badger but they are not popular - most shooters seemingly don't want to wear muffs that have been worn by other badgers!

Do two things better than the usual Bisley ones:

1) Add or ensure there is included a robust belt clip
2) Tape a laminated copy of radio codes to the back

One of these should do the trick!
