Police often suggest that the certificate holder might "lose" his pistol, but without producing any evidence that such things happen often enough to be a genuine concern
Unlike the number of times the "experts" lose them...

Yeah I was happy with it mostly but it seems a little tenuous to justify .45ACP over 9mm as it's allegedly harder to get hold of?
Shouldn't the argument be that safe, responsible, legal yada yada cert holders can be trusted to have a semi auto of any caliber? And that whether one caliber or another is easier to get hold of - it's already illegal for those persons to have ammunition of ANY caliber in their posession.

i agree totally, one only needs a mould and patience, powder primers etc and a press etc.......
I have no doubt that some shooters or probably ex or wannabe shooters do or have at some point reloaded for criminals, from the Iresponsible louts I see with guns at clay shoots still p*** from the night before, I wouldent trust em with running a bath let alone a shotgun.....
I suspect it's always been this way, after all..... most ammo can be almost untraceable back to the re loader. .....However then being in the pockets of folk like that can only lead to very bad things and ide certainly never entertain the thought of getting involved with such people....
The original post is correct, ide argue target rifle and f class shooters can potentially do more damage than pistols and do it from much further away and thus have a better chance of getting away with it and being anonymous. ........

You might consider it a tenuous argument but it's one I've used to successfully expand my collection.
Even if it's just a little bit more difficult for a criminal to get ammunition then that has to be considered a plus point. This is why primers are only supposed to be bought on production of an FAC. Another example is Canada prohibiting pistols in 38 cal (IIRC) due to the availability of ammunition.

What I mean by this is that if we start offering up calibers we can have because criminal types can't get the ammuntion for it, then aren't we offering up limitations to be imposed on us?
