A question for Target Shooters

For those of you that specifically shoot TR and/or MR. Do you prefer a smooth fore end or a textured fore end for grip, also do you prefer a wider or narrower fore end?

Don't care. Doesn't make any difference; the web of the hand is up against the handstop and since it's part of the structure that's under compression it isn't going anywhere. Under recoil the hand is just pressed harder into the handstop (or vice versa). You can't feel the texture of the stock through the glove, and even with open mit style gloves the hand is generally left open and not 'gripping'. I have one stock that is textured and another that is basically smooth aluminium.ovenpaa wrote:Do you prefer a smooth fore end or a textured fore end for grip
Wide enough to spread the load, narrow enough to fit through the channel of the hand. It's pretty much defined by anthropometrics more than preference. Aside from matching the hand size of the shooter there's probably more scope for design input by considering how round or square the forend profile is. Now that I think about it, that stock I was thinking about which has a more rounded forend than my current one is sounding more appealing.ovenpaa wrote:also do you prefer a wider or narrower fore end?
