Dedicated Gun Rooms

Apart from Dromia, does anybody here have a dedicated Gun Room? By that I mean no safe, just a secure room? I know there is a HO spec for these. I might be moving house and have to build an extension and I'm thinking of building a dedicated Gun Room/Office.
Any conditions attached to these? Also curious about the type of door required and the locking mechanism, ie can you use a biometric lock?

The Home Office guidance is the way to go, all the acceptable minimum specifications are laid out there in constructional detail and it will be the reference your licensing authority will use when assessing the suitability.
Involve them from the start and get their input to your proposals.
I found Northumbria's contribution very helpful when I was doing my gun room.

I know two guys that have built gun rooms. They did so using the specs laid out in the Firearm Security Handbook and involved their FEO's at the outset. Both reckon it was an easy process that the police were more than helpful with and that a gun room is the way to go!!

Salut,
I was invited to see one in Germany. It was truly huge and awsome. Money was obviously no object.
It looked more like an ministerial office with bespoke Biedermeier style cabinets & furniture that my friend designed. Beside modern firearms and classics, the room was housing a truly amazing collection of Napoleonic swords that had to be put in racks for space reason, some WW I & II militaria and an impressive books collection . A real rich boy toys collection room.

Just remember if you need planning permission don't label it 'gun room' on the plans as planning applications are public domain documents and anyone can access them.
You'll definitely need building regulations approval but those apps aren't PD
