Metering H110

I seem to be having issues metering H110, I'm using an RCBS poweder thrower with a micrometer adjuster but it varies .5 gr. Anyone have a similar issue with a sensible solution?

When using 'stick' powders, most conventional powder measures/throwers can vary as much as .5grain per powder charge, sometimes more. Your technique for throwing the charge has to be consistent and may take some practice for it to be so. Set you measure to throw .5 light and then trickle up to your given load.
I use a Uni-flow with a powder baffle and the micrometer adjustment and have a very consistent technique.
With TR 140 I can throw loads accurate to +/-.2grain. If the load is for short range (up to 600yds) they are just thrown. If for long range (800 to 1100yds) then the loads are trickled/adjusted to the required load.

H110 is about the finest ball powder you'll meet...

And I would be seriously worried if you're that far out. I used to load 12.3 gr of it with 35gr Hornet bullets (which foxy really really hated, but that's another tale!). I have a Redding thrower. it's bang on every single time.

Tbh even with Tac, I find that most of the time it's throwing +- 0.04gr, as measured on my lab scale. I found H110 so fine that with my old Lee thrower, it'd spill out of the handle (hence the Redding!!)

So are you suggesting it could be my thrower? Ive certainly not had any issue with any other powder.

I think it is definitely possible. I have no experience with the RCBS so I can't shed further light I'm afraid.

We have a Harrell's Precision Premium thrower and for fine ball such as SP9 it throws perfectly, better than +/- 0.1 grains however try it with something like N140 and it is not as consistent. Down side is I never use SP9 these days as it is hard to find at a sensible price so the Harrell sits in the cupboard.

Ive PM'd you, what do you want for it?

Smudge, the system cost a fortune with the stand which I very much doubt I could get back so I will hang onto it and see if I can find another ball powder to suit our rifles and get some use out of it.

Try the Ramshot range, excellent powders that meter extremely well.

I'm selling a lot of this stuff now and use it myself.

Thing is H110 makes for a very accurate load with 300 BLK so I dont reslly want to be buggering sbout with another powder. For anyone vaguely interested like, the solution is a Harrell thrower as already suggested. I borrowed one and its the biz and now awaiting delivery from the US.
