My new FAC says to acquire .44 rifle & .44 Revolver long barrel and for ammo .44 1000 rounds.
I take it I can by either 44 mag or 44 specical as it does not state which one?

Indeedy. Exactly as was intended by the Home Office all those years ago when the legislation was drafted. It's only Mr Plod who took to trying to specify the chambering.

Or 444 Marlin - same calibre bullets, bigger case. However, a revolver in 444 Marlin (if such a beast exits!) might be a bit on the wild side!

And yes a 444 Marlin Revolver does exist!

I think you'd be hard pushed to find a rifle in .44Spl only, but as you say, spl or mag ammo comfortably.
Likewise, I can't see .444 or even .44-40 falling into your authorisation.

.44 is fine just want to buy .44 mag rifle and revolver and reload .44 mag & special.

Have to disagree based on my experience - apart from a couple of instances I have always just asked for a generic calibre and then only specified centre fire (CF) or rim fire (RF) for .22 and never had a problem. I had authorisation for a .45 rifle when I realised building a 45 ACP rifle was not possible for me at that time, I went and got myself a rifle in 45-70, my firearms dept didn't even bat an eyelid when I told them.

I would counter by saying that if you truly did something wrong then they would have hauled you over the coals as an example to the rest of us.
What it does highlight is the difference (as if we didn't already know!) in how the law is interpreted throughout the UK.

This is when we start to compare licensing authorities. I know mine wouldn't have liked at all a .45-70 rifle on a .45 slot. That would have needed a specific .45-70 slot.
