Newark roll call

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

Just back from Newark, notable mentions in the order of first sightings!

Sanslem, Spud, 20series, Heather, Bnz41 & Bobob, The Gun Pimp, Gunsmoke, Dodgyrog, Westy, Laurie....erm think that is all. We hardly strayed out of the Gunmakers Hall and barely looked at the stands which is impressive for 7 hours, items of interest are far too many to mention, I noticed the new AI but did not stop to investigate, got my hands on an INCH actioned rifle so Christel and I spent a long time looking at it. Stuart had some new Savages on his stand, found a .223AI bolt action scoped 'pistol' at 24" all in. Looked at some front rests and even managed to blag one to copy, erm look at :)

I just love innovation so I was well impressed to find a 7mm WSM on a co-axial, it turned out the stock had been laminated and built by the owner, and that he had also built his own co-ax stand completely from scratch even down to the front bag, it had some very simple and well thought out features as well. The owner had also built a carbon fibre stocked BR rifle that was a stunner, even more impressive when he told me how he had built his own vacuum chamber. Turns out he lacquered my stock for me a well, who was he? No idea, I forgot his name in all my excitement

The Amy were in a corner with an original AI L96A1 fully moderated (not sure what it is designated as) Complete with original stock and S&B. No doubt it was deacted but I did not take the bolt out as it would have broken my heart to see such an atrocity performed on such a rifle.

Also checked out the new .22LR long barrel 1911 clone, true to form even down to the grip safety 650 quid and it is your sir/madam (Apparently at least one forum member is now the happy owner of one)

On a final note Vince gave me one of Lauries beautifully pointed 80 grain .224's to try in the Vikings rifle, thanks guys. :D

All in all a good day and yes I have missed out loads!

Today, Ovenpaa and I spent 7 hours at the Newark show.
Fantastic 7 hours, well worth the drive up from Bedfordshire.

We met HeatherW762, 20series, bnz41, bobbob, sanselm, The Gun Pimp, spud, dodgyrog, gunsmoke, Westy and Laurie from the forum.
Absolutely fantastic to meet these people and amid all this babbling we forgot to take pictures!
I cannot believe we forgot to take pictures :(
We did not see CK, where were you?

This year the show was a lot better than last year regarding the decking, no movement underfoot and hardly any mud, the day held mostly dry.
The parking was fine, easy in and out. Grass was not too muddy despite us coming on the Sunday.
Loads of people, loads of dogs, loads of guns, loads of knives, people smiling and overall a very pleasant atmosphere.
Well done to the organisers.

We brought home with us a bipod as a template for the one Ovenpaa is making for me, thank you sanselm!
I saw a CG Inch action in the flesh, R.G.C well done for designing that and well done woody_rod for manufacturing it.

I am there next year all being well.

It has rained heavy all day in the Bisley area, you have done well.

Can't believe you forgot to take pictures, perhaps Vince will have some that he is not going to use in the magazine?

oops I forgot to take my mobile

Met Heather (Nice to have met you, forgot about the biccies though). As for the show, would have been great if I into shotguns but it was OK not as much eye candy as I thought there may have been (except some of those ladies handing out leaflets in black were rather appealing to they eye  ), never spent as much as I thought I would have which is a bonus as far as the Missus is concerned. Just didnt see much that took my fancy.

Still got a boot full of stuff lol
