9mm Reloading

Have been using 9MM TMJ bullets and power pistol for the 9MM with good results, now have some 123grn plated bullets and they seem to not group as well. I did reduce the load for change of bullet.
Any one have any loads and data for their 9MM with lead and or plated bullets they want to share.

I always loaded my 9mm with Viht 340 or 3N37. Soft loads don't work too well with hard cast boolits and jacketed. Keep clear of using the fastest powders like Viht 310.

I'm assuming that this is for 9x19mm or 9m Luger?
I only did a small amount of testing in an attempt to get my gun to feed better than with factory ammo.
Looking at my notes I found best group was 5.8 of Unique behind a 115gn copper washed projectile from ITL. Using CCI small pistol primer. I worked up to 5.8 from 5.1.
I was using a long OAL as I had experimented with dummy rounds I made up and made a connection that longer rounds fed bettrr (slightly).
I have a moderator for that gun now, if I can not find any sub sonic / heavy commercial ammo I might return to reloading for the 9mm, but with a single stage press is was seriously monotonous.

Having once owned several 9mm pistols, I have loaded rather a lot of 9mm ammo in the past, but always with hard cast bullets. Lessons learned: one of the proof houses once conducted tests which showed that seating the bullet 1/16" deeper than normal doubled the pressure. Feeding from a magazine can push the bullet back into the case, pressure going sky high, therefore, you must crimp. Roll crimps screw up the feeding on a Luger pistol, so a taper crimp die is essential. Unique or Herco are the best all-round 9mm powders. 4.5 grn is a good target load.
In long range pistol shooting, the barrel length was measured from the front of a chambered round, so the 4" Luger qualified as a pocket pistol. My Luger was on point of aim at 100 yds with 4.5 grn of Unique and a 125grn hard cast bullet. We used to go down to the "Pistol Anno-domini meeting and three of us would shoot long range pocket pistol with my Luger---it was our "banker" to get a standard medal.

Have a lee loadmaster so can crank out lots in a short time. This was kept in loft from pistol days but back then only used TMJ with GM3 powder. So plated and lead for a carbine are a bit new. Have Lee factory crimp in 5 station sorts out crimp. Just made up some test loads with 4.5 grain of PP to see if lower velocity pulls in group as I think velocity is too high. std 115 grn S&B fmj averages 1350 out of my rifle.
