I am after a bit of help with casting for a new rifle and am getting a bit confused with the often conflicting information on the net. The barrel slugs out @ 0.328" (average of 5 slugs). Some folks have said they use the Lee C329-205-1R 205 grain or the sized down C338-220-1R 220 Grain for this rifle (M1886 Kropatschek, 8 x 60 R). The original bullet was straight sided, round nosed and weighed in at 240 grains. I would ideally like to cast a slightly heavier boolit than 205 grain as I have read that they perform better but as yet cant justify a custom mould. Does any one know what size gas check fits on these Lee molds?
This gas check thing is all new to me!

I have both of these moulds and use the 32cal gc on the 205g and 338 gc on the 220g. I find both these bullets work fine in my 8X56R which slugs at .332.
The 205g drops at .330 as cast from my mould, I shoot this unsized and it bumps up fine on firing.
The 220g I size to .332 and also suits my needs perfectly.

When you say the barrel slugs at 0.328" what do you mean? Bore or groove measurement?

.338" gas check design boolits take .338" gas checks.

Thats just the sort of info I was hoping for. I shall have to drop a couple of hints and see if Santa is listening.

This GB is due January for a high quality mould rather than a lee pig in a poke.

0.328" was the groove dimension, I have the bore dimension as well just cant remember it and cant check it at the moment because I am at work
Looking at the bore, it doesnt look like it has had much use as the rifling is deep and crisp and I cant see any pitting or frosting anywhere. It was bloody filthy thou and took a while to get through the old grease and dust. The throat looks good too.

Pardon my ignorance in this but the mould in the link-would that be a more suitable mould than the previously mentioned ones? And if so, would I order directly or is there a UK group buy?

The NOE mould will work as advertised and drop boolits to the specification. Lee moulds are a pig in a poke, if you get a good one then all is fine but they are notoriously poor quality, lee use the ikea model of quality control - get the customer to do it, lee moulds usually need some fettling to get them to work as advertised and they rarely drop to specification usually undersize although lee's generous tolerance is plus 0.003".

You get what you pay for, I have a few Lee moulds that are keepers and they are mostly single cavity or GB six cavity.

Just jump on the GB on Cast Boolits, Al will PM you an invoice when the mould is being cut, he takes paypal, and the mould will be with you in two to three weeks. It is scheduled to run in the beginning of January and he is up to date with his mouldsI I suspect when he has caught up with the GB's he will be doing inventory runs to build up stock before he takes on any more GBs.
