Hi everyone, a shooting post from me (for once tongueout )

Pretty much all of my old milsurps shoot high. Being an old pedant I'd like to correct this, I'm assuming that this means getting taller front sights. Does anybody know where I can get such a thing for the following :

Lee Enfield No4 Mk2 1949
Mauser Karabiner 98k 1943
Mosin Nagant 91/30 1944

I know that there were different front sights for the Enfield but I know nothing about the other two. Is there a particularly scientific way of working out how big the front sight needs to be? The Enfield is about a foot high at 300, the Mauser a good couple of feet at the same. I've only fired the Mosin at 25 yds but that had to have the sights all the way back and I had to lollypop the target to hit it.

I know I can aim low or use 200 instead of 300 but I want my rifles to be right.

One of the guys at my club has a kit he made up for installing the correct hight front sight in Enfields.
If you get to Bisley I am sure we could help you out. I do have a few spare foresight blades for Enfields.
No idea on the others but the Mosin probably needs to be shot at 200 to get a proper idea.
I have a K11 Schmidt and its fore sight was drastically low.
I took it off and soldered a piece of flattened cartridge case onto it then filed it square.
It was actually cock on after!

For a No.4 you need the foresight retaining screw tool and a spare foresight blade of the right height. They come in various different heights, a few dealers do sell them.

It's best not to improvise with a pair of pliers instead of the correct tool - it's too easy to wreck the screw, as I found out...!

For the No4, what size foresight do you have on the Rifle? The Foresights come in 0.015" increments ranging from -0.015 to +0.075". They are stamped on the top by the side of the blade what the height is. Changing a foresight blade for a taller/shorter blade will move the MPI approx 2'' at 100yds for each 0.015" change. If you zero at 100 yds, with the sights set to 200 the MPI should be approx 6'' above POA. You can get foresights from Fultons, or PM with the size that you need and I'll see what I can find.(have a box of the things somewhere)
What mark of foresight block do you have? is it a split block or does it have a screw at the front that instead of slot it has a raised blade(reverse screw head) if the first you need to take the foresight protector food to remove blade by drifting it out. If the latter then you need to make a tool to undo the screw. (once you have undone the screw, replace it with a 4BA cap head screw and use an allen key.
Any more questions on the No4 just ask..

As for the others, you need to get different height foresights but I don't know where from or what the changes are in terms of height/distance and MPI

Easy fix for the Mosin is to fit a bit of Electrical heat shrink wrap sleeve over the fore sight post almost to the underside of the cover then trim as required. Remember to shrink the sleeve onto the post before you fire the first round. They do not do replacement posts for Mosins.

Taller Mosin front sights available on eBay.com or you can get one made.I have the dimensions for it somewhere,will post them later for you :)

I've seen N04 foresight's for as much as £10 each on ebay.

DS Solutions have got full sets of 9 foresights for £15. I've order a few Enfield parts from this chap and he is very helpful.

I know it depends on the rifle, but what sort of change in POI can I expect if I increase the height of the fore sight by 'x' amount?
