6.5x55 Twist info required.

I have recently acquired a Tikka m55 fitted with a shilen barrel chambered in 6.5x55 Swedish any body know what the twist is likely too be or how can I determine what twist it is.
Excuse my ignorance but these modern rifles are new to me 99% of my riles are Milsurps.

My Swede mauser has a 1:7.8 twist. ..or not too far off that...

To work out your own;
Get a cleaning rod with a tight fitting jag/mop
Insert from the muzzle end of the barrel.
Mark a line on the rod at the 12 o'clock position
Mark the rod at the muzzle
Push the rod until the long line is back at 12o'clock...then make another mark on the rod at the muzzle
Remove the rod and measure the distance between the marks

Hold your rifle nearer the computer monitor and I'll take a look for you.

I would do what Saddler said, but my advice would be to push the rod in from the chamber end and use any convenient reference point on the receiver to mark the 12 o'clock position.

I have seen too many rifles with damaged crowns from bad cleaning (usually from either rodding from the muzzle or repeatedly pushing the rod through and then pulling back without removing the jag, brush etc). Not saying you will but there's always a chance.

Which ever way you do it you should get an idea of your twist rate.

A Shilen barrel in 6.5x55 is more than likely a 1:8 twist for bullets over 130grns or 1:9 for bullets up to 130grns. All Shilen barrels and their twist rates are available on their website if one takes the time to search, it's a wonderful thing the internet.

The first thing I did before asking the question was to check Shilens web site I could not find the info I needed there so I asked the question here. Up to now I am none the wiser I still do not know what the twist rate is. Any help would be appreciated.
