Winchester trapper 94 Angle eject cast boolit question.

On the last two occasions at the range(25 yards) my Winchester trapper under lever rifle loaded with 38 special has just sprayed the rounds all over the targets. In the past I have all ways used boolits from my own mould using wheel weights the mould is a 158grain semi wad cutter. The boolits were then tumble lubed in liquid allox. With out looking at my data I can not remember of hand what I sized them to. Wheel weights are very scarce now so I am saving the stock I have left for specials. Any way I bought a box of 500 Hannams Round nose flat point boolits it says on the box they are sized to .358. Any body else used these boolits and what sort of accuracy are you getting. This rifle was a tack driver so either some thing has gone wrong with the rifle or there is a problem with these cast boolits. I am tempted to melt them down and recast them in my own mould. At the moment its just a wate of powder and primers.

I'm having the same problem with my Winchester. It shoots great with 125 grain Rainer copper plated bullets but now that I've run out I'm having to try and get a decent load worked up for it with lead bullets. As I've got plenty left, going to give the 158gn SWC another try. fingerscrossed

I did have some success with RNFP boolits (148gn, I think) at 38 special velocities. If all else fails, it's something I can revist - if I get the time :cool2: .

What is the measured boolit diameter and what is the actual groove diameter of the rifles you are using them in?

I wonder if the Hannams Boolits are a bit hard (they are sold as 'hard-cast'...not that I really understand the subject?) - A club-mate was having problems with the RNFPs, but got better results with the TC (truncated cone) version.

I've got hundreds of Hannams boolits in a Jar, which have been there since I changed to Rog's (Dodgyrog) boolits a couple of years ago - I batch weigh them for best accuracy (I'm sure Rog won't mind me saying that), but even straight out the tub they load and shoot very well.

Had zero problems with any of the lead bullets that I used in my Win 94 Trapper...but then mine is in a proper caliber, 45 Colt

Mine normally punches the middle out of the target with cast boolits or any thing else I put through it in 38 special or
357 magnum.. That's why I am concerned about the Hannams boolits.
I found these hiding under a piece of rag in my gun room they are my cast boolits covered in allox I will shove them through a sizer re lube them and shoot them and check the difference. I think it might be that the Hannam boolits may be to hard. But we will see.

There's nothing wrong with semi wad-cutters, but they may not feed brilliantly in a Winny...

They feed fine in mine I have used this mould in mine before. They are all I used until I got lazy and stopped casting my own.
