New member with a Winchester P14

Good morning

I am a relatively new member who has been lurking for a while :o

I have recently obtained my FAC and my first purchase was a Winchester P14 that was handed to the British inspectors at the Winchester factory week end the 30th December 1916.

Since then it has obviously had a rather chequered history but the bore is excellent and it certainly shoots a lot better than I can smile2

it would seem that it has been through the Weedon process but the marks under the stock have been removed, Parker Hale 5B sights have been fitted front and rear, but it has 2 wooden discs under the bolt on both sides that I do not understand the purpose of

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. :goodjob:

Why not introduce your self on the New Members forum?

The Enfield Mausers are good accurate rifles indeed.

I have a very nice as issued non Weedoned Winchester, the PH aperture sights really help get the best from the rifles accuracy potential.

The wooden plugs are covering the place where the stock cross bolt would be, I have another P14 in stock with the same plugs, when you have had the wood off is the cross bolt still in place?

Dromia, Sorry, but I am not brave enough to take the wood off as yet

meles meles, I have always wanted a SMLE, but I much prefer the P14 now that I have fired both, the SMLE will happen shortly...

Welcome from another P14 owner, one of the most accurate .303 service rifles produced in my opinion :good:

Every issue Ross I've had has equalled or out shot every issue P14 I've had.

Ross produced some fine rifles however if you take them out of the equation the P14 takes a lot of beating.

Ross rifles do seem to be rather rare though...

Heh, I would be inclined to put my 'humble' P14 up against the vast majority of .303 rifles with very little worries tongueout
