Following on from this thread, http://www.full-bore.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=13837 we are interested in reduced power loads for 6.5x5 Swedish, oomans. These will be used in:

1. Carl Gustaf 1896 rifle
2. Krag Jorgensen rifle (cute side loading magazine !)
3. Competitor long barrel pistol (you have Sandgroper to blame for this one)

What suggesteth thou ?

4-5 gns Vihtavuori N310 with a 120 - 150 gn boolit.

I use a 120 gn Loverin design sized to 0.268" for my military chambered swedes, the 140gn Lyman 266469 is a very good boolit too if you can get it to drop large enough to fit your rifles throat.

You must be exceptionally extravagant to use Trail Boss which has to be one of the most expensive powders in the UK. Use the money you will save on a using a different powder to get your casting set up bought.

It gives no benefit over the normal faster powders and as it is a tad slower around N320 it will have more of a propensity to vertical string. That said I have seen it perform well enough but at the price it sort of defeats the aim of a low cost accurate short range indoor load.

Just use milsurp for competitor pistol - just make sure you get someone to film it for our amusement! ;)

H4895 is good for loads reduced by up to 60% from max. See http://www.hodgdon.com/ for more details look under Data.

That "formula" will give you a reduced velocity round that will still be way over the top for most indoor ranges certificates.

The "formula" also says that the loads con be reduced to 60% of maximum not by 60%

It doesn't like milsurp, the primers are seated too deeply for them to be struck reliably every time.

It's not actually a beast to fire with full power rounds, the gun has a 23.75 inch barrel and weighs a fair amount so the recoil isn't as bad as you might hope... We want a reduced power load simply so we can fire it on an indoor range.
