I was asked a question tonight by a friend at the gun club which I did not know the answer to so I said I will try to find out for him.

He has a 38/357 under leaver that He wants to use for vermin control and possibly roe deer on His own farm is it just a case of asking for a variation for vermin and deer and humane dispatch?

I have fox and vermin for my 357 Winchester. I had to explain it was for short range fox control - Grampian was happy with my reasoning. If your mate is in Scotland, I doubt he'll get Roe authorised as it might not meet the minimum velocity requirement of 2450 fps.

He really only wants it to shoot foxes and kill wounded deer.
We live in Scotland

Shouldn't be a problem, I know of a couple of keepers who have .357 carbines on for vermin/fox control. If he has it on ticket for such he would also be able to use it to alleviate suffering in a deer such as following a RTC though he should consider getting it put on for despatch if he regularly attends such incidents.
