What would you oomans recommend as a good scope for 600 yard shooting ? At 300 yards, our usual distance, we have a number of 6x42 scopes from Lisenfeld, Pecar and Meopta. We may try our paw at 600 yards soon and wonder what you'd suggest. In general we prefer a fixed power scope, and don't want to spend a huge amount so that rules out something from the likes of Zeiss.

one of Brian Fox's scopes will do just fine, or you could dig up the hoard and buy a PMII

I have a 6x42 cheapie Chinese built Tasco on my heavy barreled No.4 Mk2 Enfield that works ok for me at 600 yards.
The clarity is suprisingly good for a budget scope and it has held together thus far; 10 years of 7.62 recoil hasn't fazed it one bit.

I've recently got one of those 8-32x50 Fox scopes. It was brilliant at 25yds but I could barely get it focus on Short Siberia and that was at 8x. Nothing higher mag was possible.
I notice that there is only a small amount of parallax adjustment on the side wheel although the numbers go to 300. I'm wondering if I need to reparallax it as there doesn't seem anything wrong with it apart from that.

A chap who shoots at Ponteland with the Tyne Valley club has a Fox 8-32, told me it went faulty and had a bit of a problem getting it sorted under warranty, was told "what do you expect at that price?", eventually got it replaced but wasn't impressed with the after sales service. I had been thinking of getting one (or a Hako) for the Howa 308 my son uses as its current Simmons 6.5-20x44 needs a bit more magnification.

It does all seem a bit hit and miss, if you'll excuse the pun. This is my second one as the first one went straight back due to having quite a big mark on the lens.

Sounds like I should just reparallax it and hopefully get it to work like yours. It's got the usual cut outs in the ring inside the objective so presumably I just need to twist that round a bit. Has anyone done one of these already?

I have historically only used scopes for killing bambi and other animals, I like fixed power, 2.5 to a maximum of 6 is what I have on these rifles. I have also been collecting scopes for the day when iron sights are a complete impossibility for me and currently have in my collection have Pecar, Lisenfeld, Bausch and Lomb, Kahles, Swarovski, Burris, Sightron, Schmidt and Bender, Dinox, Bushnell and Weaver scopes with magnifications going up to x32 all purchased second hand over the years. They are all good glass as far as I can see with clean bright views and the turret clicks doing what they claim on the target. I have an especial fondness for Pecar scopes

I was using a Fox scope on a Varmint 223 I had in the other week at 300 yrds and wasn't impressed, the image was blurred in parts and couldn't be adjusted out also the reticle edges were ragged. I didn't try any tests with it but from the bit play I had it was just that cheap glass. When people like Vince sing its praises for the money from their experience then I would listen, however I suspect that with these scopes it all depends on the particular one you have so you could get a good one or a bad one as there are probably good batches and bad batches coming in.

For out to 600 I'd look for a second hand Pecar 4-10 variable which you should get in the £2-300 range and you will know that you have a good scope.

Hmm, so it sounds like a nice second paw Pecar or similar at x10 would be ideal for us then, and in keeping with what we already have for 300 yards.

you could see if you can pick up an Edgar Brothers 10x42 or 20x42 ?
