Bullet heads?

#1 Post by dromia »

Bullet heads, I keep seeing references to these appearing all over the place. What are they?

I know what bullets are and the only other "head" use in cartridges is the case head, but bullet heads?

Is it the tip of the bullet or the ogive or what.

Haven't found it in any of my reference books on handloading and ammunition and they go back to the mid 1800s.

Is this a new product I've missed?

I think it’s a term used by many who think it sounds better. A bit like the media who always refer to ammunition as “Bullets” ;)

Heads are what you find on board ship, normally near the bows, that's why they are called "heads",
for the uninformed "heads" on board ship are the toilets
But what has the word got to do with bullets?? nuffink

A Ha! I used to bang on about this all the time on G/Trader used to drive me nuts hearing Bullets referred to as heads. Still does. Everybody knows that Heads is where sailors meet their friends

In one of my clubs I set up a "Heads box" in the club room.

Whenever anyone referred to bullet heads they had to put a pound in. You don't hear it said hardly at all now and the box is nearly empty.

Isn't It just a easy term for the uneducation.
If ammunition was a person the the bullet would be the head the case would be the body and maybe the primer would be the, never mind lol.

Other way round mate. :D

The head is where the primer is as thats where the whole process starts just like the brain. The bullet is in the orifice at the bottom where all the s***e comes out.

Thats why the case head is the case head and bullet heads are used by head cases. :?

Thought i'd throw my two penneth worth in. I used to make about 200,000 cases in an 8 hour shift and the operation that put the extractor groove in was called "head turn" and when the primer chamber was formed it was called "indent and HEAD"
