I cannot find my .308 gauges so I need a couple more Go/No go gauges, where in the UK would be the best place to find such things quickly.

Interestingly I found my .303 British easily enough so the .308 are either somewhere very safe or I have leant them to someone and forgotten all about them...

Arghh.

Ehm, forgive my hijack & ignorance but what is a go / no go gauge?

They are used to check the size of a bore (or other machined part).

You start with the "Go" end, and if it does not fit, the bore is too small. If it does, you then use the "NoGo" end. If that fits then te bore is too big, if it will not enter then the bore is correct within tolerances.

Say you want a 20mm +/- 0.3mm - that means the holes could be anywhere from 19.7 to 20.3 mm.

The "Go" gauge will be 19.7 +/- 0mm (although realistically they are+/-0.01mm or so) at a specific temperature and "NoGo" 20.3 +/-0.0mm. If teh hole is 19.65 then te "Go" will not fit - so the bore is undersized. If the bore is 19.78 then the "Go" will fit but the "NoGo" will not - meaning the bore is within tolerance. If the bore is 20.32 then both "Go" and "NoGo" will fit meaning it is oversized.

You get gauges in all diameters with different tolerances which are tied in with machine fits.

Rifle head space gauges Go/No-go gauges are used to check the chamber and head space of a rifle to make sure is capable of chambering a round safely.

Hannams were a 'No-Go' however Tom and Sporting Services was able to supply
