'Update your details please' 'Um, yes, you licenced me to have these six AK-47s ...'

Bungling police staff at South Yorkshire Police have finally copped to a huge snafu in their firearms database after spending the last two months writing to thousands of firearms licence holders. The letter simply requested they "update their details". Bosses have blamed the database snafu on the actions of a sacked administrator.
My take on the whole South Yorks firearms database cockup. Feel free to click the link repeatedly, share with family, friends and dog, etc etc.

No need, I am sure that your skin and soul are sufficiently impervious.

That's the first time I've found myself on The Register's web site for a few years and it'll no doubt be a long time before I venture there again.

It's not that the substance of your article, and probably others too, isn't decent, I just can't stick that grating tabloid style they've adopted. Please don't take that as a personal criticism. I've no doubt you're writing in the style that is required but I'd just prefer something a little more mature.

Lets hope their investigation into illegal firearms is more professional than their record keeping as regards legal ones !!

Wouldn't it be more than 9000 guns? I thought I'd read they'd lost the details of 9000 licence holders. If I guess the average guns owned by person at around 3-4 each, that could be 30-40,000 guns unaccounted for...
