K31 scope mount

Hi All

I was pondering, I have a lovely K31 and as we all know they are accurate little beasts, currently I am considering getting into a bit of deer stalking as I know a few keepers and have access to land. So bar the formalities with the police, ie getting the conditions on my FAC amended/ land approved etc, does anyone think it is a viable option to use a k31 for deer with a scope mounted using this mount:

I am thinking that it is a cheap alternative to buying a new (probably second hand) gun in .308 or .243 or 6.5x55 and so forth... to get into hunting slightly bigger game initially. If it turns out that I will be consistently shooting them, then yes I would consider a deer specific rifle. I know for years people have used surplus .303s but I don't know how it's viewed now using a surplus firearm and if the aforementioned mount would be suitable (with a decent optic) to fell deer. I already reload for it so this will also help me tune accuracy out of the rifle as well. What does anyone think?

There's definately plenty of ooompth behind that .308 projectile! I assume been a 308 round there'll be plenty of expanding etc bullet options? As a further note any suggested scopes around the £300 mark (will consider second hand)

We have a nice second paw Pecar 6x42 on our K31.

Plenty of fine optics to choose from at http://www.emmacustomrifles.co.uk

That mount looks like its well over to the left.
Looks a bit cack handed/eyed/pawed!

K31 mounts are offset to allow a stripper clip to be used for reloading. A benefit of this is that the iron sights can still be used.

Worked with the M1D and the SMLE sniper variants, although as per a previous comment, everything I have read does suggest it is a bit of a pain.

the mount with the correct scope works fine, just stick with a simple 4 or 6x scope with a small objective lense and 1" tube and no side focus knob and the jobs a good 'un, my K31 is conditioned for Deer and AOLQ although to date I haven't had chance to use it for that.Zero at 100 yrds 3/4" left of point of aim, you will then not have to worry about horizontal cross over the POI will always be 3/4" left, and for closer than 100yrds you can just use the iron sights

no different to the canted extra set of sights so beloved of the tactical shooters in the states

Here's how the mount looks on my K31. Seems ideal to me but then I shoot from the left shoulder.
