Considering a LBP

Well I'm thinking of a .22 LBP now, though can't decide on what to do.

I've currently got a BP cylinder loading Pietta 1873 SAA, which is good fun.
Nice to have a 'proper' length pistol, though the laborious loading and cleaning puts me off shooting it. And I can rarely hit the target at 25 metres. But I have a feeling that I'd regret selling it in the future, and it did take a while to find one.

I've heard various things about the .22 LBPs on the market, what's the difference between the GSG1911 and the TSC1911? Not forgotten the Low Mills, just trying to justify the cost.

Cleaning will be much easier and I can see it being more fun, even if it is a bit unwieldy.

Do you think I should swap the BP pistol for a Low Mills 1911, or keep it and get a GSG/TSC1911?

I just can't make up my mind, would like the input of others that own LBPs.

At the risk of getting 'flamed' by the old school black powder guys, have you tried shooting with Hodgdon's 777 - should make the cleaning a lot easier.

Also, why the switch to the semi? Not fancy an LBR?

I already use 777 FFFG Shoots low and I don't want to file the sight down.

Thought about a Taurus since I reload .38, but .22 will be cheaper to run.

What load were you using? What's your normal BP load?

Taurus (and a few others) do revolvers in .22LR - 9 shots IIRC.

I like the .22LR 1911 clones, but I'm personally put off by the price tag. Heck, I won't even stump up £800 to fill my .357 LBR slot at the moment.

17gr with a Hornady lead ball (can't remember what grain/size).

I'd much prefer a 1911 over a revolver, Low Mills claim the pistol is capable of 1" groups at 50m. Shot a Springfield 1911 in .45ACP a few years ago, still got the cases

Caledonia Classic Arms. Getting on for half the price of a LM 1911 and I think better built than a TSC 1911. Trouble with 1911 clones is that they are only as good as the barrel bushing.

The GSG is the same as the TSC1911 just with the 12" barrel and brace at the back, as far as I know the low mills one is made on a proper .45 1911 frame just with a .22 kit on it whereas the TSC is built as a .22 from ground up with lower quality metal frame, the standard bushing is rubbish.

They are great fun to shoot, would be interesting seeing a target at 50m never mind getting a 1" group unless you are benchresting it.

Interesting, has anyone got one? Prefer the standard open slide model. But a 1911 over it still

May I suggest a single shot BP pistol or Rifle as from comments I've heard from the owners it is much more enjoyable as there is less loading time before you are ready to shoot.
And when the RCO calls "two minutes" you dont have a mad rush to fire five shots. :)

Then again, a LBR is nice, but flippin expensive.

Roger Bill at Shooting Supplies is listing Taurus 980's in .22 at £349 new...... surprisingly out of stock at the moment, but is taking advance orders for the next batch and I'm assured that they will be at that price.
